Rotary Club of La Conner President Adam McGarity would like to thank Christi King (Rotary Club) for sponsoring the project and Maureen Brennan the Social Worker/ Counselor for La Conner Elementary School to stock the student pantry. With a heart for children in their learning and literacy, the Rotary Club felt this would be a perfect community activity that many would want to support. You proved us correct!
The project was put in place in 2022 to counterbalance the effect of COVID. Prior to COVID, parents were able to send homemade snacks, however, new guidance restricted unwrapped snacks into the classrooms to ensure student safety. Most teachers spent their own money to ensure they have snacks for their students. We are so thrilled that we were able to take the burden off the teachers and now the pantry cupboard is full. We have enough monies collected to restock two more times.
We will reassess in the future to determine if we should make this a yearly event as we did this year. We are so proud and grateful to all of you for making this such a huge success! You should have seen the smiles all around as the children watched the carts coming through the door.
